Coffer of Love

I heard a tune that went straight to my soul and gave me wings,

I can’t recall the melody but it came from my angel that softly sings,

All the pipers played a sad melody for the soldiers departed to war,

The drum and fife drew upon departed souls to play an elders score,

Goodbye I heard so loud as I held a photograph near my lips in vain,

In a distant window a lone small candle burns in memory of the slain,

Humanity reigns again as the emotions of war makes grown men cry,

Memories of departure flood my heart as her love makes me soar high,

Forgive me I cry, my bullets were fired true as devastation was the result,

A heavy burden we’ll carry for life but journalist brand us in a final insult,

Yet the drum and bugle plays a march for those whose youth is denied,

During daylight of war I’d see her in my mind and alone at night I cried,

My life began the day I saw her there so beautiful with long dark hair,

I was born to be with her I have no doubt in my heart, worry or a care,

When pressures seem too heavy and pain inflicts it’s due I think of her,

She is in my heart or at my side, I rejoice that her love is in my coffer.

The end. I love you
