The Depth of Change (Color Unaware)

So troubled is the time of Dr. King my memory does wane,

Distant was that time long ago the journey creates a strain,

Influence of his speeches and that event render such pain,

Memories along freeways of life stand as billboards in rain,

The vehicle of transport seems broken though I’m unsure,

How I came to be inside this vehicle I could never procure,

Is a mystery given from heaven to awaken me to the cure,

I once thought myself to be aware if I was in the brochure,

How can we without color create change even just some,

Most important is that color unaware must be within one,

None awareness comes by being unaware with everyone,

Contradiction in use of words explains how to get it done,

To see without seeing, it sounds to be an impossible task,

Each time you see a man, please look to see inside I ask,

Look beyond the color of his skin and of yourself unmask,

Unless you see both the same, only then drink of the flask,

Understanding will come by teaching about racism pain,

If we can understand the pain created for prosperity gain,

A history of slavery and internment camps are our shame,

Be it war or riches the minority has been treated the same,

When we thought we knew, the truth is that we have not,

Though we joined with wedding band it is not as thought,

We stand united yet if targeted he becomes one we forgot,

He cannot be understood unless together you are caught,

I believe within my soul that every man of color knows,

A huge hand of prejudice that’s left a mark that shows,

He bears unseen scars but God sees the sins of his foes,

And we say we know, but truthfully our ignorance grows,

Unlearned is ignorance, learn what he the pained imparts,

Hold his hand in unified prayer asking that healing starts,

Forgiveness comes from admittance of sins even if parts,

Tears may fall in a unification of all as we join our hearts.
